COLOMBO DOCKYARD LAYS KEEL OF THE 5th VESSEL OF THE SERIES OF 5000DWT ECO BULK CARRIERS BEING BUILT FOR MISJE ECO BULK AS NORWAY

Making the year 2023 extremely busy, Colombo Dockyard PLC laid the keel of the 5th 5000DWT Eco bulker series for the Misje Eco Bulk AS Norway.

Colombo Dockyard delivered the 2nd vessel of the series on 21st April this year and scheduled to deliver the 3rd and 4th vessels also later this year.

The simple and charming ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. Thusitha Herath – Owner Representative/ Site Manager for the project and Mr. Prince Dharmarajan Owner representative and DNV surveyors Mr. Mohan Ariyarathne and Mr. Pulasthi Jeewantha Ipalwatha.

From CDPLC side, Mr. Hideaki Tanaka Chairman, Mr. Thimira S. Godakumbura MD/CEO, Mr. J.Furukawa Director, and a host of other Senior Management and Staff /employees were present.

The 89.95m DNV classed Eco Bulker was designed by Wartsila Norway, and detailed design is carried out inhouse by the CDPLC design team. The vessel comprises of an Energy Storage Battery System (ESS) for Electric Hybrid Propulsion on top of the conventional diesel propulsion facility.

Misje Eco Bulk AS, Norway (Misje) is the very first European client of CDPLC and this project will further strengthen CDPLC’s reputation in the European market with the brand “Built in Sri Lanka blending Sri Lankan technology with Japanese quality”.

CDPLC operates in joint collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Company Limited of Japan with a 35% stake by Sri Lankan Government institutions. Expanding its business nearly five decades, CDPLC is the front runner of Sri Lankan industrialization as the leading contributor to the National Export earnings from the Shipbuilding sector.
