Colombo Dockyard lays keel for construction of a Platform Supply Vessel for Singapore – April 2011

Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) laid the keel for the construction of the first of a series three Multipurpose Platform Supply Vessel (MPSV) for Greatship Global Offshore Services Pte Limited of Singapore, at the auspicious time of 11.30 am on 7th April 2011.

 

This significant event marked the commencement of construction work of the vessel in the presence of owner’s representatives V.K. Chandrasekaran (Project Head), Jeewaka Gunadeera (Project Manager), Classification Society Surveyors; Srinath Herat (Lloyds Register) Praveen Kumar Mishra (Indian Register of Shipping) and a host of CDPLC officials including Akihiko Nakauchi (Chairman, CDPLC), Mangala Yapa (MD/CEO, CDPLC).

 

The vessel was designed by Seatech Solutions International (Pte) Ltd of Singapore and it incorporates an oil recovery arrangement and has the capability to operate as an advanced PSV as well as a light construction support vessel, complying with SPS Code 2008, Clean Design requirements.

 

This vessel is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2012.
The main role of this vessel will be to support offshore oil and gas fields around the clock and the vessel will have an endurance of 35 days and a cruising range of about 9200 nautical miles.  Designed for operation worldwide and with an outstanding speed of 13.8 knots, the vessel can get to the desired location in the shortest possible time.  The vessel has been designed and will be built for operation in unrestricted waters.
